Powell’s Books: The Greatest Book Store in the World

Saturday we ventured off to Portland because we had free tickets to The Portland Art Museum.  We enjoyed the museum (some of us more than others) and since I was braving downtown Portland traffic, I figured that it would be the perfect time add on a trip to Powell’s Books.  For those of you that don’t know, Powell’s is what I would consider the greatest book store in the world!  It takes up an entire city block and their website says it has over a million books.  They have the best children’s section ever! We walked from the museum and was so excited to get to the book store that the only picture I have is this one that I took accidentally as I was navigating us.  Thank you Google Maps.

We had so much fun at the book store.  We sat and read books for a couple of hours.  It was such a great way to spend the afternoon. I found a book that I had been looking for to add to the school library collection. We found a few on Ancient Egypt that Taelin wanted to get and of course a few picture books. I also got milk and honey because I can’t go to the greatest book store in the world and not by a book for myself. Well, I probably could but I don’t want to.

I have a feeling that this trip is just the first of many.

P.S.  I don’t love driving in Portland and honestly dislike walking around there even more.  Big cities just aren’t my jam. But, I already had paid for parking so I sucked it up and we walked everywhere.   We were walking back to the car with my new reusable Powell’s bag full of book and I was feeling pretty damn proud of myself.  And then….I biffed it.  Really hard.  Crossing the street.  For no reason.  After two nice gentlemen helped me, I hobbled my way back to the car that was luckily only one more block further.  And then I discovered I had scrapped my knee in a way that I haven’t done since I was learning to ride my bike.  I seriously need to learn to walk without hurting myself.  I have a picture of my knee and I almost added it but then thought better of it.  Needless to say it was super embarrassing and it still hurts two days later.

P.P.S.  I have no idea why I wrote shared that story but I kind of like there so I am leaving it.
